Shahab Esfandiari

Shahab Esfandiari was born in Isfahan in 1977. He holds a BA in Film Directing and a MA in Film from the University of Arts and a PhD in Critical Theory and Film Studies from the University of Nottingham, UK. He is an assistant professor at the Faculty of Cinema and Theatre at the University of Arts and was the director of the Cinema Department at the university from 2014 to 2016. His book, “Iranian Cinema and Globalization,” has been published in the UK and the US by Intellect Publishing and University of Chicago Press. A translation of this book, titled “National Cinema and Globalization,” has also been published in Iran, and won the “Cultural Research of the Year” award in 2015 and was nominated for the “Cinema of the Year” award. The books “Cinema of Resistance,” “Foreign Film Screening: Opportunities and Threats for National Cinema,” “Watchtower,” and “How Do Governments Help Cinema?” are among the works published by Dr. Esfandiari. Dr. Esfandiari has published various articles in domestic and international scientific and specialized journals and books, and his articles have been presented at various international conferences. He is the scientific secretary of the conference “Resistance Cinema: Theories, Policies, Critiques” and the conference “Foreign Film Screening: Opportunities and Threats for National Cinema”, and the director of the “Film Festival Studies”, “Cinema Policymaking in the Age of Globalization” and “Cinema and Religion” conferences. Dr. Shahab Esfandiari has also written and directed the documentary series “The Globalists”, which has been broadcast on various domestic networks, translated and dubbed into five languages, and broadcast on various international networks.
