A specialized conference on “The Influence of the Israeli Lobby on Western Political Institutions” was held as part of the third Sobh media festival at the conference hall of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) organization. The event featured Mick Wallace, politician and former member of the European Parliament; Clare Daly, politician and former member of the European Parliament; Alastair Crooke, former diplomat and analyst of West Asia affairs; and Max Blumenthal, documentary filmmaker and political analyst.
Mick Wallace, a former European Parliament representative, stated during the session, “The European Union lacks independence, and its decisions are influenced by external lobbying groups.”
He further explained, “The EU follows NATO in its military and security policies. Their goal is to increase control and expand their military force, operating within a Zionist plan.”
Wallace also recounted an incident where the EU proposed a memorial for Israeli casualties on October 7. However, when he suggested extending the memorial to include Palestinian victims, his proposal was rejected.
He continued, “The Ukraine war has raised the cost of living in Europe. This is part of an anti-Russia agenda pushed by the Zionist lobby to divert public attention from Israel’s crimes.”
Later in the session, Max Blumenthal, journalist, documentary filmmaker, and political analyst, stated: “I grew up in Washington and am a Jewish American. In the U.S., a kind of conscience revolution is happening, largely due to the presence of Palestinian journalists.”
He added, “Casino-style democracy and gambling are embedded in European politics and the existing Europe is based on this. However, the media presents an image of ideal democracy and tries to maintain its soft power in pursuit of this issue.”
Blumenthal further noted, “Some individuals on social media continuously attack me to distort my image. Their objective is to prevent a true depiction of Iran from reaching audiences.”
He emphasized, “I’m pursuing journalism in Iran and want to share what I witness with my audience.”
Clare Daly, a former European Parliament member, remarked, “The EU was supposed to focus on peace and human rights, but it has been absorbed into a neoliberal project, aligning its policies with American interests and military strategies.”
She added, “Europe’s complicity in the Gaza genocide is undeniable, yet various institutions still promote the notion of European human rights.”
Daly asserted, “Israelis and Zionists dominate surveillance and security software, using it as a tool for controlling people and enabling genocide.”
She further highlighted, “They conduct different types of experiments on Palestinians, including software-related tests.”
Alastair Crooke, former diplomat and West Asia affairs analyst, also spoke at the event, saying, “The Zionist lobby aims to weaken Russia, and its influence in the U.S. runs deep.”
He added, “Liz Truss, the former British prime minister, admitted in her article that upon assuming office, she realized she had no actual power. She stayed for about five weeks before stepping down. This demonstrates Israel’s hidden influence and lobbying within Europe’s financial and administrative structure, which significantly impacts Congress.”
The final session of the third Sobh media festival, titled “West Asia After the Al-Aqsa Storm,” will be held on Thursday, May 8 at 10 AM at the IRIB conference hall. Speakers will include David Miller, professor, politician, and broadcaster from the UK; Radwan Mortada, journalist, documentary filmmaker, and political analyst from Lebanon; Louis Aldi, historian, writer, and journalist from the UK; and Sharmin Narwani, journalist, founder, and editor of The Cradle from Canada.
