Sobh Media Center Condemns Israel’s Systematic Crimes Against Journalists in Gaza
Israel, through yet another wave of attacks on civilians in Gaza including members of the press has once again committed grave crimes against humanity, continuing a pattern of state-led terrorism that has persisted with intensity for nearly eight decades. The atrocities of the past two years stand as irrefutable evidence of an eighty‑year campaign of genocide, destruction, and the deliberate targeting of the most vulnerable.
In less than two years of relentless assault, Israel has killed or injured approximately 200,000 people in Gaza. Half of the victims are women and children, and tens of thousands remain missing beneath the rubble.
Since October 2023, Israel has killed nearly 270 journalists, a toll unparalleled in modern conflict. Among them, Anas Sharif, Mohammad Qreiqeh, Ibrahim Zahir, Mo’men Aloua, and Mohammad Nofal were murdered for their commitment to reporting the truth. Displaced from destroyed homes and media offices, they had sought refuge in tents near Al‑Shifa Hospital, only to be hunted down in direct violation of international humanitarian law.
These targeted killings violate the Geneva Conventions and international protocols designed to protect journalists in conflict zones. Meanwhile, Israel shielded by decades of political impunity, openly admits to its crimes, knowing that silencing witnesses, starving communities, and leveling homes will not bring accountability from the very institutions sworn to uphold justice.
The recent massacres of journalists are part of the same strategy that saw Israel bomb the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) headquarter during the 12‑Day War, an attack intended to replace truth with silence. Starvation, displacement, and the collapse of all basic infrastructure have now rendered Gaza almost uninhabitable, pushing its exhausted population to the brink of survival.
The campaign to kill journalists is nothing less than terrorism against the free press.
We, at Sobh Media Center, stand in unwavering solidarity with our martyred colleagues and with the people of Gaza. We call upon the United Nations, international courts, human rights organizations, and all states committed to the rule of law to end their silence and take decisive legal action to hold Israel accountable for its war crimes against civilians and journalists.
Furthermore, we demand that June 16, the anniversary of the attack on the IRIB headquarter, be officially recognized as the International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to Victims of Terrorism Against the Media, serving as a lasting reminder of the global struggle to protect freedom of meda. We belive that Truth cannot be silenced
